![]() In Character BASICS Name: Magrat Germaine McGonagall Age & Birthdate: 22 / 16 March 1957 Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual Marital Status: Single Blood Status: Halfblood Wand: 10" of Willow with Dragon Heartstring Current Residence: Bexley, London Affiliation(s): Order Supporter; Ministry Employee Political Stance: Magrat is aware that everyone makes assumptions about other people. It's basic human nature to judge others right away, she admits to doing it herself. However, there is a difference between just making assumptions and sticking with it and looking past that first impression and getting to know the person better. While she may not do that for every single person, Magrat doesn't understand how anyone can just randomly decide they don't like someone or think they are superior to someone by just looking at them, seeing their name, or knowing their bloodline. Magrat had always been for equality, especially for muggleborns. She found it fascinating that someone with no magical family could be a witch or wizard and she's always fully supported them. SCHOOL & WORK Former House: Gryffindor Years: 1968-1975 Any Extras: Chaser from 1969 to 1975 NEWT Scores: Charms (O)utstanding Defense Against Dark Arts (E)xceeds Expectations Transfiguration (A)cceptable Arithmancy (E)xceeds Expectations Astronomy (O)utstanding Occupation: Assistant to Lydia Townsley Attitude Toward Job: Magrat doesn't mind it, Lydia is an excellent boss. After all this time of putting up with Magrat and she still hasn't been sacked, she pretty much adores Lydia. PERSONALITY Likes: Magrat has several subjects she is really passionate about. The first is Astronomy. For as long as she could remember she's been fascinated by the night sky, she's collected tons of books over stars, planets, comets, the works. She loves learning it from a wizarding standpoint and a muggle's. She has her own telescope that she's very proud of as well. Magrat also loves ocean life, especially animals. She could probably tell you more than you want to know about the Orca whale. Some of her other hobbies and interests are cooking, reading and playing the flute. Loves nature has a soft spot for flowers, especially orchids. Quidditch is definitely one of the top 5. Dislikes: Anything that smells really bad. Magrat gags whenver she's smells something disgusting, even a small whiff could almost make her puke. It's a little frustrating but it also depends on the smell. Usually it's the really strong rotting smell that gets her. Magrat really hates being cold, sure snow can be pretty too look at but if she had a choice, she would sit in a warm house all night and day and let winter just pass her by. She really hates bees, mostly because she's allergic but either way, their such a pest and she hates that annoying buzzing sound. Greatest Fear: Getting attacked by a shark. Even if she hardly spends any time near shark infested waters, all that reading about sea life and given her a fear of the creature. Greatest Wish: Unrealistic? To talk to animals. Realistic, to find someone that makes her blissfully happy. General Personality: Magrat is probably one of the best girls you could ever meet. From the start you can see there is a certain spark about her. There is always a smile on that girl's face. She's full of live and love, she has a worry free personality to her. She doesn't like anything that drags people down. You can say in a way she's very hippie like. Magrat tries to see the beauty in everything. She loves surrounding herself with friends, not because she wants to be popular, she doesn't want control. She just wants to have fun. If she could spend her entire life being around people that she cares about, joking, laughing and having a good time? That would be the best life in the world. One thing she's got a lot of is spunk, thought often that word is mistaken for blunt. If she's not happy with something you better believe that she will say something. If someone has a problem and Magrat sees an answer that's obvious to her, she'll say it. Magrat tends to get very uncomfortable when the situation gets serious. In fact, if she had a choice between staying when things got tough or running away, she would run away. She doesn't like making touch choices. Which definitely doesn't help when it comes to her social life. Magrat's problem is that she is afraid of commitment. There's no real reason, perhaps she's just afraid of being rejected and giving her whole heart to someone is very scary. So Magrat runs before it gets too serious. She's aware that this does make her seem a little flaky, but she doesn't know how to change it. Magrat is a good loyal friend, when things do get serious, her initial reaction is to run away but she tries to control it if someone really needs her. Magrat is a very adventurous girl. She loves to travel more than anything else. In fact, she has a map of the world and she has different color pins stuck to different places. Places she's been and places she would like to go. Sadly, she can't speak any other language other than English but thankfully there are some helpful charms for that. She likes to observe people, see how much different they are from her. Plus the shopping isn't too bad either! She also enjoys going on nature walks as well. Anything to get her outside in the fresh air. When it comes to organization, Magrat has none. Her flat is extremely disorganized. Well, to other people's standards. Magrat will tell you that she knows exactly where everything is. Although she's been known to lose things on more than one occasion. Usually it's hidden under a pile of clothes. She likes to say that it's because she doesn't have time to make everything perfect, when in reality she is just a little lazy. It's amusing to think that she became an assistant when she had no previous experience. She does her best to keep her work organized but it's a little more difficult for her. She is slowly getting better though, the fear of being fired and the fact that she actually looks up to her boss, she wants to be better. But you can still often find her work area a mess. PERSONAL & FAMILY HISTORY Family: Grandmother: Germaine (Ravenclaw 1916-1923), Grandfather: Callum McGonagall (Gryffindor 1916-1923), Father: Virgil McGonagall (Gryffindor 1943-1950), Mother: Esme Gripes (Hufflepuff 1945-1952), Brother: Neville Callum McGonagall (Gryffindor 1965-1972), Aunt: Minerva McGonagall (Gryffindor 1936-1943) History: It was quite adorable, the story of how Virgil McGonagall and Esme Gripes met. The two were two years apart and they were in separate houses. Virgil in Gryffindor and Esme in Hufflepuff. To be honest, before that day on the Quidditch pitch, the two had never spoken before. It was Virgil's 6th year, Esme's 4th. It was after a Quidditch game, Hufflepuff vs. Ravenclaw. Ravenclaw had won but that didn't put the smile away from Esme's face. She had a blast with her friends. When Virgil first saw her, it was after the match. All the students were making their way back to the castle when he noticed a young girl laughing and joking with her friends. Instantly he felt himself smile. Everything about this girl was adorable. Her laugh, her smile, she was goofy and didn't mind being that way in publish. At that moment, he wanted to speak to her but they ended up getting lost in the crowed. A few days later, he saw her again. In the library, she had walked in as he was checking out books. This time she had no friends around her, none of his friends were with him. It was too perfect. So with that in mind, he told the Librarian that he would return in a moment. As creepy as this sounds, he did follow her but he didn't want to disturb her just yet. He had to think of something to say before just diving in. Finally he went with the lame approach, asking her if she could help him find a book. Well it worked, the two ended up talking, he even stayed with her for a few hours helping her with her homework. How did they become a couple? No one really knows, not even them. It just happened. The more he got to know Esme the more he adored her. Yes, she was a little young compared to him so he knew he had to be careful, he didn't want to scare her off. Though their relationship didn't become serious until after Virgil had already left Hogwarts. It seemed the distance between them only made it stronger. When Esme finally graduated for Hogwarts it was almost instantly that they became engaged. Some time after that, their fist child, Neville was born. Three years later, Magrat Germaine McGonagall. Both her and her brother received their middle names from their grandparents. Magrat was a little different from Neville as a baby. For one thing, Magrat loved getting attention. However, she only wanted it when she felt the need for it. If she didn't feel like being held, she'd cry until someone would put her down. Yes, she was a bit of a handful growing up. When she became a toddler, she did change some. Instead of wanting attention all the time, all she wanted to do was play with her brother. After all he had the best toys! The two were very close and they did spend a lot of their time together. Though Magrat had a habit of bossing her older brother around and for some reason he usually went along with it. They did like being in competition with each other, their favorite thing to do was race each other. When Neville was the first to get accepted into Hogwarts, Magrat was definitely jealous. She had been waiting so long to go and she knew that her brother would get to go first but that didn't stop her from being upset. Plus, it was the first time her and her brother would be separated, but Neville seemed nice enough about the whole thing. He didn't brag, instead he promised his little sister that he would write to her and tell her all about it. He did keep his promise and while it wasn't the same as being there, she enjoyed the stories he would tell. Especially about their Aunt Minerva who was a Professor of Transfiguration. It helped Magrat to know that her Aunt would give no special treatment to her niece and nephew, not that she was looking for it but it gave her something to expect when she would finally arrive. When it was Magrat's turn, she was nervous as hell. She didn't show any emotion as she waved goodbye to her parents, other than excitement. Yes, she would be a little homesick but her brother was going to be there and her Aunt as well, so surely it wouldn't be too lonely for her. Neville helped her find a spot but then went off to join his friends. She was a little jealous that Neville was more interested in his friends now than his sister and she hoped that she would make friends soon. The train ride took forever and it was a little boring for Magrat. She was sharing a compartment with a few other first years and all of them talked about what Hogwarts was going to be like but after a while the topics became a little dull. Most of the time, Magrat would just sit there and wonder what house she would be sorted into. Her father and brother were Gryffindors and she didn't think she'd mind if she was put into Hufflepuff, her mother always said it was the best house, she made amazing friends and they always had fun together. After a long train ride, they did finally get to Hogwarts and Magrat waited anxiously for her name to be called to be sorted. She was happy and excited when it shouted 'Gryffindor!' and she could hear her brother cheering for her above the rest of the house. It made her feel welcomed. In Magrat's mind, Hogwarts was the best time of her life. She was a fairly decent student, studied when she needed to, always put her work first before anything else, even Quidditch. If Magrat had to pick what was best about her years at Hogwarts, the answer would most definitely be Quidditch. She joined the team in her second year! Of course it helped that Magrat spent a lot of her free time at home practicing with her younger brother whenever they could but the Captain seemed to notice a lot of potential in the young girl and she certainly didn't let him down. Magrat was quick and fierce on the Quidditch pitch. She practiced hard and it definitely started to show. Her third year on the Quidditch team she even won an award! Plus, it helped her make a lot of friends, through the years of playing Quidditch, she got to meet and play with different students and she got along with just about every one of them. Even though clearly Quidditch was a good priority, it didn't take away from her schoolwork. She had a good schedule worked out so she could finish all of her homework, practice and get to spend time with friends. Sometimes it did get hard, especially with exams. Sadly she had to neglect her friends in order to pass her OWLs and her NEWTs. Thankfully though she wasn't the only one, a lot of her friends were in the same position so there were no hard feelings if Magrat had to drop spending time with a friend so she could study up on Charms. When it came time to looking for a career though, Magrat never considered playing Quidditch professionally. While some of her happiest memories came from Quidditch, she felt like Quidditch was just something to make her days at Hogwarts more memorable and it was just a fun game to play, nothing she wanted to make a serious career out of. When she did leave Hogwarts, she ended up taking a job at the Ministry, an assistant to Lydia Townsley. Not the most glamorous job in the world and some wonder why she would take that over Quidditch but honestly, Magrat doesn't mind it at all.
